Enhancing Cross-Border Judicial Cooperation: A virtual Milestone

On June 14, 2021, a momentous virtual judicial conference brought together esteemed judges from Baja California and California, with a focus on family law. The event featured two distinguished speakers, Hon. Judge Carlos Varela and Hon. Judge Enrique Camarena, who shared their expertise on critical family law matters.

One of the pivotal discussions during the conference centered around the proposal to replicate the cooperation agreement between the County of Imperial Valley and the Baja California Superior Court. This agreement aims to foster seamless information exchange between judges on both sides of the Mexico-United States border, particularly concerning child support and custody matters.

The meeting witnessed the active participation of influential judges from Baja California, including the Presiding Magistrate Judge Alejandro Fragoso Lopez. Facilitating the event in representation of the Binational Bar Association were Adriana Ruvalcaba and Luz Paola Montero, who skillfully moderated and coordinated the proceedings.

This groundbreaking conference marks a significant step towards strengthening cross-border judicial collaboration and ensuring the well-being of children and families across international boundaries. By sharing knowledge and insights, the participating judges have paved the way for a more efficient and compassionate family law system on both sides of the border.
