San Diego Has New Judge of Mexican Heritage

With the distinguished presence of judges, law enforcement, prosecutors, lawyers, defense investigators, friends and family, CARLOS VARELA became state judge for the County of San Diego.

The now honorable judge Carlos Varela was sworn in by the Presiding Judge for the San Diego Superior Court Hon. Peter C. Deddeh at the new downtown courthouse.

Judge Varela, of Mexican descent, was Chief of the South Bay branch of the San Diego District Attorney’s Office for the last 10 months before being chosen by Gov. Jerry Brown for the position.

Binational Bar Association (BBA) representatives were present at the event to congratulate Judge Varela and wish him the best in this new path of his great career.
